Declan’s fingers spear through my hair, and as he begins to fuck my mouth, I reach between his legs to cup his balls in my hand and stroke his taint. His groan spurs me on, so I increase my suction and the pressure of my finger against the sensitive flesh.

“Fuck, baby, I’m gonna come so fucking hard. Are you going to swallow all of me?” I moan around his dick. I’ve never swallowed before, but I don’t want to stop. “Oh shit, baby, I’m coming.” The first splash hits my tongue and I swallow. Again and again it happens, and I swallow it all down. When he finally stops coming, I lick the tip of his cock before it slips from my mouth. I lick my lips before he grabs me and tosses me on his bed.

Following me down, he settles between my legs and his lips hit mine. He’s such an amazing kisser and I open my mouth for him, letting his seeking tongue inside. My legs wrap around his thighs. Declan’s lips travel down my neck and then up to my ear, nipping gently at my earlobe. He changes course again and begins moving down until he reaches my breasts. Declan’s lips wrap around the hardened tip and suck…hard. My back arches off the mattress and I grab his hair in a punishing grip.

He moves between both my nipples, licking and sucking, and I can feel it all the way down to my pussy. I’m close to coming from the strong pulls and nips of his teeth, and I’ve never had an orgasm simply from nipple stimulation, but it could happen today. My body writhes underneath him and I can feel how wet I am. He latches onto my nipple while plucking and pinching at the other when I feel an orgasm start. “Oh God.” I moan as my hips move of their own volition.

He kisses his way up my body, and I sigh happily because I feel good, amazing. He leans over me and I hear a drawer open and then the telltale sound of a condom being opened. When he finally gets it on, he lines his dick up with my pussy and slowly eases inside of me. I moan into his mouth as he stretches me. God, it’s been too long since I’ve had this glorious feeling, but it’s better than anything I’ve ever experienced.

Declan pulls his mouth away, but I don’t miss the look in his eyes or the fluttering that happens in my belly as he begins to move inside of me. I know this is significant; it’s important. He grabs my leg, pulling it up higher on his hip, and he manages to hit deeper inside of me. He reaches between us and begins to rub my clit as he rolls his hips, hitting my sweet spot. I feel my orgasm slowly build and grab his face, pulling it down so I can kiss him as my orgasm starts. My body shudders violently and he begins to pound into me over and over until his movements become erratic and he groans into my neck.

“That was amazing,” I whisper. My fingers slowly stroking up and down his back, I take his full weight and love it.

“You don’t know how bad I’ve wanted to do this.” His fingers drift down my cheek. “You’re so incredibly beautiful.” Declan kisses my lips slowly and I savor the kiss, but all too soon it ends and I whimper as he pulls out. He disposes of the condom and then comes back to bed and wraps me in his arms until I feel my eyes drift shut.

  Chapter Five

I pull into the parking lot at Harrison Elementary and spot Declan’s car. Butterflies take up residence in my belly. After I remembered our night together, I stressed the rest of the weekend. No wonder he was pissed or at least hurt. We shared something kind of amazing and I didn’t remember it at first.

Yesterday I dodged calls from Tricia and Moira. Moira had seen us leave together and she wanted details—details I honestly didn’t want to share with anyone. So instead I tried to conjure up every time Declan had been a condescending jerk, when he would have his nose up Mr. Litchfield’s ass, but all I could see was after that first time when he fucked me doggy style and then I rode him until we both came.

My hand immediately wants to cup my pussy because I’m still sore, but I don’t. Instead, I take a deep breath and climb out of my car. I grab my messenger bag off the passenger seat and head inside.

My school is two floors and I’m on the second floor, and of course Declan’s room is right next to mine. They’re connected by a tiny hallway with doors on both ends. He’s always kept his closed…why? Probably because he always acts like the way he teaches is a secret. That’s one thing that has always pissed me off. If we worked as a team, we could help and support each other, but he just never wanted any of that.

I reach my classroom, flip the light on, and set my bag behind my desk. Through the little space between our rooms, I can see Declan sitting at his desk typing on his computer. Even from where I stand I can tell he looks tired. I debate on whether to go try to talk to him now, but I decide against it. We’re at school, and if it doesn’t go well doing it here could be a big mistake.

The sound of heels clicking on the floor pulls my attention to the entrance of my room. Moira comes toward my desk with determined steps. “Girl, what happened Saturday night?” She leans in toward me. “You guys left together.” Moira jerks her head in Declan’s direction. My face heats up and I look away. “Did you sleep with him?”

I give her a small nod. “Can we talk about it later?”

Thankfully she can see the stress on my face and nods. “Sure, honey.” I look at the clock and see it’s time to head outside to wait for the students to line up. I grab my coat off my chair, shrug it on, and head downstairs.

Declan’s downstairs already, but he won’t even look at me. My stomach rolls and I feel physically ill right now. I’ve never hurt somebody the way I know I’ve hurt him. It’s even worse now, knowing or remembering what we shared. Yes, it was just physical, but we just clicked. Now he won’t acknowledge me.

A couple of my students come up and start talking to me and it’s easy to let their chatter pull me from thoughts of Declan. When it’s time to head inside, we wait our turn and then we follow behind his class upstairs. It takes my class a few minutes to get settled.

“Okay, guys, let’s go get those reading logs out.” I go around each desk and stamp the paper of everyone who had their parents sign their log. At the end of each month they win a certificate for a free personal pizza if their whole sheet is filled out.

“Last week I asked you to pick a career to write a one-page report on. This week we’re going to start with our outline. What you’re going to do is break it down to the intro, each topic point, and then your conclusion. Raise your hand if you already have a career picked.” I notice that over half of my kids have their hands up and that makes me happy. “Okay, awesome! Those of you who don’t, I’m going to call you up one at a time and we’ll talk and see if we can think of a good one. Remember, this is a detailed report. I want to know why you chose your career and then think about three or four reasons why it interests you.”

Before I call any students up, I go around and write down what the other kids have chosen. There are a lot of doctors, nurses, and policemen. I’ll be interested to see if they can make them different so they all don’t run together.

I sit down behind my desk and call the first student up.

The kids are all gone, so I go back up to my class to finish up a few things before I head home. As I’m walking toward my room, I see Declan walking out of his, leaving for the day. I slow my steps in hopes that he’ll stop and talk to me. We’re almost to each other and he walks right by me without acknowledging me at all. It’s like he looks right through me and it hurts; it hurts more than it should. “Declan.” His steps don’t slow and he quickly disappears down the stairs.

My nose burns as I make my way back into my classroom. I sit heavily in my chair and turn to stare out the window. It’s so gray and gloomy outside, but it matches how I feel perfectly. Is that ice? I stand up and move towards the window. I’ve got a prime view of the parking lot. I happen to catch sight of Declan walking to his car and I see that Kelly is with him. They stop by his driver’s side door and she’s leaning into him as they talk.

A smile appears on his face and my stomach pitches. Why? I hate him, don’t I? I step away and sit down to grade the math test the kids had today. The tink, tink sound of the sleet o
r ice hitting the windows fills the silence around me. I should really get going before it gets too bad out—my car handles shitty in this kind of weather. My dad’s been on me to get a SUV because we do live in the Midwest. I have money for a sizeable down payment, but the money in my savings has always been for a down payment on my own house.

Right now I rent, and I really like it because I have a great landlord who handles everything. He even sends his boys over to shovel or mow for me. My dad says I should wait to buy until I’m in a relationship so I don’t have to turn around and sell it.

It looks like it’s coming down pretty hard right now, so I grab my stuff and make my way outside. There’s a thin layer of a slushy mix on my windshield. I start my car, grab my ice scraper, and clean my windshield off. Ugh, I don’t want to drive in this.

Slowly, I pull out of the parking lot and head toward home. The roads aren’t too bad, but when I make it up the sidewalk I hit a slick spot. Like a damn cartoon character, I flail my arms and legs before my feet fly out from under me. I brace for my fall, and my back slams into the ground, knocking the breath out of me.

But hey, why not! The way this day has been going, this is the perfect fucking end to it. I roll to my stomach and carefully push myself up to stand. With slow-moving steps, I finally make it into my house. My back is already screaming, and did I hit my head? I reach up and wince when I touch the back and feel a goose egg already forming. “Just great,” I mutter to myself. I move slowly toward my bedroom.

I strip out of my wet clothes and throw on some yoga pants and a sweatshirt. After I get changed, I grab some ibuprofen and swallow them down. This is my punishment for sleeping with Declan, for getting so drunk I couldn’t remember right away what happened. For having sex with my mortal enemy…but is he really my enemy? Yes, yes he is. I remind myself again of the shit he’s always pulled with me.

I lie down on my couch and stare at the ceiling. One particular incident runs through my mind. We were getting ready for the Iowa Test of Basic Skills after prepping the kids for it for several weeks. I had decided to reward the kids with points for correct answers—they could use their points at the end of each day for different treats, or they could pool their points and use them at the end of the week for bigger prizes.

I'd gotten certificates for free personal pizzas from a local pizza joint and free ice cream from a parlor. It was after our first week that I had been finishing up some plans when Declan came into my classroom.

“Hello, Ms. James.” Ugh, I hated when he addressed me like that. “How is your prep going?”

I turned in my chair to face him. “It’s going well. They’re relaxed and confident. How’s it going for you?”

“My kids are always ready.” Ugh, barf. Why did he have to always have such an arrogant tone? Especially when without a word he turned and headed back out. Dick.

My eyes open and its pitch black in my living room. I must’ve fallen asleep. I move to get up and my body screams in agony. My eyes drift heavenward. “Is this my punishment? Grrr…”

I ease off the couch. In the kitchen, I make a quick sandwich and scarf it down. I take a couple more ibuprofen and head to bed, praying that I’m not in excruciating pain tomorrow.

  Chapter Six

  Declan

I step into the main office and grab my mail out of my box. When Mr. Litchfield sees me, he rises from his desk and comes out to shake my hand. “Good morning, sir. Thank you again for a wonderful party. I think it was a success.”

“Thank you. I’m glad everyone had a great time.” He shakes his head. “It’s a shame about Brenna, though.”

What’s he talking about it? “What’s wrong with Brenna?”

“She slipped on her sidewalk yesterday afternoon and fell. She hurt her head and her back, so she’s home today.” He walks away and I’m left standing in the office, worried about her.

The day before it had been so hard to ignore her, especially when we walked by each other and I didn’t miss the hurt look on her face. Last night I thought about our night together and really, I can’t be that mad that she didn’t remember everything. I didn’t even give her a chance to remember before I threw a fit and hid in the bathroom like a coward until she left.

She left me a note that I didn’t find until later. It was obvious she felt bad, and really, it’s not her fault that I felt we shared a moment that she obviously didn’t. Oh well, lesson learned, but a part of me wants to go check on her to make sure she’s okay. I know I’m kind of a dick, especially to her, but it’s always been to help keep me from crossing that line again. But look at where that got me—I crossed it anyway.

I’ve slept with my share of women, but I’ve never felt what I did when I first slid inside Brenna. It was like things had just clicked into place.

The morning bell rings and pulls me from my thoughts, so I head to my class to start my day.

“Good morning, everyone,” I say as I enter my classroom. My kids all quiet down as I move through the room and sit on the corner of my desk. “I had a chance to look through your outlines for your reports, and they look great. Next week we’ll start writing them, and when they’re done we’ll trade with Ms. James’s class.” I stand up. “Now it’s time for our spelling test.”

After the school day is over, I’m getting my stuff together when Kelly comes walking in. Fuck, I’m not really in the mood for her shit today. She’s been up my ass the past couple of days. I don’t know if it’s because she’s worried that I’m going to tell that I caught her and the bartender after she sucked him off in the bathroom, but why the hell would I tell anyone? It’s not my business who she does.

“Hey, Kelly. What can I do for you?” I stand up and shrug my coat on, hoping she gets the hint that I’m leaving.

“Oh, nothing. I was just walking by and saw you were still here. Did you hear about Brenna?” She rolls her eyes. “Looking like she does, I’m not surprised she’s such a clumsy idiot.”

Now she’s starting to piss me off. Sure, I haven’t always treated Brenna the best, but she’s certainly not an idiot.

“She slipped on ice. I hardly think that makes her an idiot. Did you need something? I really need to be heading out.”

I ignore her crestfallen look. “Like I said, I just saw you were still here. I’ll, um, see you later.” She walks out and I leave in the opposite direction. The sun’s out but the temperature is still frigid.

On my way home, I stop by the grocery store and head to the counter where they serve Chinese. I planned on ordering food just for me, but I end up ordering enough for two. While I wait for the chicken lo mein, I grab a couple of drinks and some ice cream.

What am I doing? Why am I bringing dinner to her? Fuck, maybe she won’t even want it or maybe she’s already eaten. After buying my groceries, I head over to Brenna’s house. I only know where she lives because we went to a conference together and I picked her up. She lives right by me.

I pull up in front of her light blue slab home. After grabbing the bags out of the backseat, I walk slowly up to the front door. What if she thinks I’m creepy? When did I turn into a pussy? I ring the doorbell and wait for her to answer. The lock disengages and the door opens.

“Declan? Hey, what are you doing here?”

“I heard about what happened and I wanted to see if you were okay.” I hold up the bags. “I brought dinner. A peace offering after the other day too.” She’s in a pair of grey cutoff sweats, red thermal socks, and a black zipped-up hoodie. Brenna is the only person I know that can wear something like that and look like she’s ready for her close-up. When I first met her, her beauty intimidated me, but then her personality shone through and it made her all the more beautiful.

Her face is blank and I have a feeling she’s going to turn me away, but her lips tip up slowly into a soft smile. “Come in.” I notice as I step inside that she’s moving slowly in front of me.

“Are you okay?” I look around her living room and it’s warm and inviti
ng. She’s got plank flooring; a huge area rug with swirls of creams, blues, and reds; a light toffee-colored loveseat; and a chaise lounge and oversized chair that have red and blue plaid patterns. Candles illuminate the space, the scent of vanilla and lavender filling the air.

“Yeah, I’m okay. I’m just really stiff. The goose egg on the back of my head’s finally gone down.”

I follow her into the kitchen and pull the containers out of the bag. She places two plates in front of us. I show her both entrees and she nods, so I dump a little bit of the chicken lo mein and the Mongolian beef on her plate and mine. I divide the egg rolls and Crab Rangoon and then pick up our plates. “Where do you want to sit?”

“Let’s go sit in the living room.” She curls up in her chair and I hand her plate to her before sitting down on the loveseat. Neither of us says anything while we eat. Her TV is on and I don’t have any idea what she’s watching. I glance at her out of the corner of my eye. Her eyes look droopy, like she can barely keep them open.

  “Are you all right?”

Her fork freezes halfway to her mouth. She sets it down. “My step-mom took me to the doctor today—she was worried about a concussion. I don’t have one, but they gave me some muscle relaxers. I just took one before you got here. I’m just going to apologize now if I fall asleep on you.” Brenna tucks some hair behind her ear. “This was really nice of you, considering…” Her voice trails off and she turns her attention back to the TV.

Do I bring Saturday night up? “It wasn’t a big deal. I was there grabbing some stuff for myself and knew we lived close to each other and thought you might appreciate not having to cook. I just wanted to see for myself that you were okay. As far as Saturday night goes, let’s just chalk it up as a huge mistake.” If I hadn’t been looking at her, I would’ve missed the hurt look on her face.
